Frequently Asked Questions Northern Kentucky Attorney
How much is a consultation, and how long does it last?
We offer low cost consultations with any Northern Kentucky Attorney at Greta Hoffman & Associates. All consult fees are included in your retainer if you retain our services. Sometimes our attorneys are able to spend more time with a client on their first appointment to begin working on the case, and will charge the rate set for the case for any time past a half hour consult.
What do I need to bring for our first appointment?
Our Northern Kentucky Attorneys will be better able to advise you on your first consultation if you bring with you the following:
- Copies of all prior pleadings filed in your case, if any.
- Documents proving dates of birth, dates of death, date of marriage, social security numbers, and all other relevant documents to prove personal information.
- All relevant financial documentation.
- All relevant property documentation.

How do we charge for our work?
The Attorneys at Greta Hoffman & Associates charge either an hourly rate or a flat fee for their services, depending upon the needs of the case. The hourly rate varies by the person performing the work and the type of work performed. Typically a retainer is requested at the beginning of the case, and clients are billed on a regular basis. Clients are expected to pay their bills in full as they are billed. Your retainer and hourly rate will be established in your consultation. The flat fee varies by the work required to complete the case. The fee and retainer are established in the consultation. Generally, a bill is not generated until the case is completed.
What type of payment do you accept?
We accept most major credit cards including American Express, Visa, and Discover. We also accept cash and check. People many times request payment plans, but, in essence, the fact that we bill our cases each month is a payment plan, rather than requiring full payment for the case in advance as some attorneys will do.
In what counties do you practice?
We handle family law, criminal law and estate cases in Boone, Campbell, Gallatin, Grant and Kenton Counties in Kentucky; and, in Hamilton and Clermont counties in Ohio.
How long have you been practicing?
Greta Hoffman has been licensed since 1996 in Kentucky.
Zach S. Smith has been licensed since 2006 in Kentucky family, civil and criminal law, and since 2008 in Ohio.
How tough are your attorneys?
The attorneys at Greta Hoffman & Associates perform their work with the level of tenacity as required by the case. Sometimes it does not help your case to have a “tough” attorney; it may be more advantageous to approach the case with a strategy that does not utilize aggression. Greta Hoffman and her staff are able to develop a strategy for your case based upon the people involved and the issues presented.
